My journey began years ago out of necessity to find relief from chronic back pain and stress. Through the years I have seen countless doctors, physical therapists and chiropractors. I have had multiple x-rays, MRIs, tried muscle relaxers and over the counter pain medications. The final straw for me was when one physician wanted to cauterize the nerve that was "causing" pain (once he located it at $600 an injection.) I asked, "Why would we do that? The nerve is what is telling me that there is a problem. Don't we want to find the root cause?" His response was, "Don't you want to stop feeling pain?" Then he sent me home with a prescription for Tramodol, Percocet and Vicodin...all at one time. Are you kidding me???? Needless to say, that was the last time I saw him.
So, began my quest to pursue a more healthier, non-narcotic route. Someone recommended trying yoga, and from the moment I stepped onto the yoga mat, I knew I had stumbled onto something. As I mentioned my initial motivation was to find relief from chronic back pain and stress. But over time, I learned that there was so much more to the ancient practice of yoga: respite, breath work, mindfulness, peace, overall health and well being from head to toe, and community. I decided to delve in deeper and eventually became a Certified Yoga Teacher, Amrit Method Yoga Nidra Facilitator and BOOTSTRAP Instructor and Stress-Interdiction Specialist.
I was also introduced to Foundation Training, a program that teaches the body to move more effectively, powerfully, and in balance. The exercises, developed by Dr. Eric Goodman, taught me how to stabilize the spine, re-balance the body and develop proper and functional movement patterns in today’s modern world. Inspired by the program and the relief it provided me, I became a Certified Instructor and now share the benefits of functional movement with others.
These transformational practices have provided a frame work from which I operate in all my classes and in life. Bringing in my personal experience, truth, compassion, grace, freedom, and joy, my intention is to provide quality, experiential classes that offer practical life applications, refreshment, empowerment and inspiration. My teaching style is eclectic, as I incorporate diverse modalities based on student and client needs.
My life has been a journey filled with many lessons on and off the mat, and my desire to touch lives and share the gift of movement is my passion. Time spent with others moving, breathing and just being brings me great joy. Throw in time with my family and friends, a little music, coffee, pasta or Italian gelato and I am on top of the world.
